Hola Familia!

Wow it was so great to hear from you all this week!!! Happy happy birthday to Kelsie, Carter, and Grandpa Griffeth this week! I am so happy to hear that grandpa is doing so well! It´s awesome to hear all the people that have been fasting and praying for him! I know that the power of prayer and fasting is so real and I´m so grateful to have been able to take part in fasting and praying for grandpa! Please keep me updated on him! Also CONGRATS Jared and Kelsie!!! Ahhhh I am so excited that you´re having a boy!!! I was thinking all week that it was going to be a girl, but I am super stoked!! Also it sounds like London´s birthday party was lots of fun!! I can´t believe she´s already 1!! Harvest sounds like one big family reunion! How fun to have so much family helping with it and I´m glad it´s going well!! Please send me pictures of harvest, and our family and everything! I love all the pictures you´ve all been sending me including Josh´s funny face, Whit´s family, Kristie´s dark hair (i love it) and Garrett´s sweet jumping horses with Brigham!! Also it´s so fun to hear about volleyball and football! Good job Kristie and Garrett! It sounds like you´re going to have awesome teams!!

Well, things here in Colombia have been AWESOME this week!!! We got to go out proselyting for 3 hours on friday and it was sooo awesome to be out feeling like a real missionary teaching real people!! Haha so funny story, we ran into these two different people that tried to preach their religions to us. The first guy we talked to for a little bit and then just ended up trading pamphlets with him and then this other crazy lady was telling us all about Joseph Smith and multiple wives and everything and she talked so long that we were 10 minutes late to the bus and there were people running all over this neighborhood looking for us! But it was so aweosme because we talked to this little old lady that wasn´t super intersted in what we had to say about the church, but she liked talking to us and kissed us when we left! We also found this guy just walking down the street with us and he was super intersted in hearing the gospel so we got all his information for the missionaries in the area to go find him. we also found these two guys loading a semi and they were also really interested so it was super cool to have some good experiences!! I love street contacting!!
We also have been teaching a ¨less active¨ here at the CCM (he´s a teacher that dresses up) but it was so awesome because he was soooo dificult to teach because he believed he was doing everything right in his life and could just do service and be a good person and everything was fine so he wouldn´t come to church. Anyway, we taught him for a few weeks and we finally broke through to him and he said he would go to church! The spirit was so strong and it was awesome because even though he was a ¨fake¨ person, we still felt the spirit so stong in the lessons! I think it was a little glimpse of what it´s like to teach real people!
So this morning we got to go through the temple in a spanish session! It was really neat and even though I couldn´t understand all the words, the spirit was still so strong! After we went to the temple, all the people that have been at the CCM for 4 weeks go to go out on tour! We rode up this ski lift thing to the top of this mountain and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! On one side was the giant city of Bogota and the other side was all jungle! It was seriously so pretty! It was also super fun because we got to buy the jersies that everyone in south america has… so I am now a true South American Missionary! 🙂 It was also awesome because we got to go to Mcdonalds and buy ice cream!!! That´s one thing I´ve realized that I´ve missed a ton is candy and American ice cream!! Haha so that was super fun!
Oh and on sundays we all prepare talks, and then they randomly call people up to give their talks… well I was one of the lucky chosen ones last week and I can honestly say I will be so happy when I know everything that I said in that talk!! 🙂 I knew what it all said the night before when I wrote it and translated it into spanish, but when I was on the stand I was just trying to say all the words and not choke because I was so nervous! I tried to tell a story that I hadn´t written down and I got into the middle of a sentence and didn´t know a word and had to back track a little but besides that I think it went pretty well! But who knows because I have no idea what I was saying!! 🙂
It was so fun to read all your letters and hear all about all that´s going on at home!! I love you all so much and I want you all to know that I know that this is the only true church on the earth! I´m so grateful and know I have been so blessed in my life to grow up in the church and have this truth all along! I love you all so much and am so excited to talk to you next week! I love you!!
Love, Hermana Hawkes
Oh and I also get a Latina companion tomorrow!! Pray hard that my spanish will be good enough to communicate with her! I´m super excited and know that it will be such a good experience!!!

Hola Familia!

Happy birthday to London!!! wow 1 already!!!

Well it´s been another great week here in Colombia!! I don´t feel like there is a ton to tell because all I do is pretty much go to classes to learn to teach the gospel and classes to learn spanish!  I LOVE IT HERE!!!! Time seems to fly by and I can´t believe when it´s sunday and the start of a new week again!! It´s so fun to hear what´s happening with all of you and all the activities you´re all doing! I´m pretty jealous because fall was always my favorite time with harvest, school starting, all the sports…. How fun!!! I love hearing what each of you are doing!! Thanks for all the emails!!

Ok so the few new things that have happened here. We got a new teacher and he is seriously probably the most in tune teacher I´ve ever had! Whenever anyone is feeling the spirit really strong in class he will stop and ask us to describe our feelings right then and it´s so awesome!! We also had another teacher that has challenged us to speak one more hour of only Spanish per day… yesterday was up to 11 hours…. wow… 🙂 but I know the Lord is blessing me so much because yesterday I was sitting in an all Spanish class and all the sudden at  the end i thought wow I understood everything he said! So I know that my spanish is getting a little bit better!! We have been teaching an investigator and a less active (teachers that dress up) but it is such great practice and I really enjoy it! Also last week in sacrament meeting, all the Hermanas here sang a song and it was so cool because the N americans sang the first verse in english, the S americans sang the second in spanish, and then we all joined in and sang the third verse in spanish! it was super cool!! We also got to go to the temple this morning, we usually go once a week, and it was seriously so awesome!!! I love the temple! the president of the CCM I soooo awesome! I feel like he´s my personal concerned grandpa! He always asks how I´m doing and he had remembered everything I told him in my first interview here and asks me questions all the time!
Oh i was so glad to hear that Sally got her mission call!!! She will be so awesome and it was great to see the pictures! thank you”! also thank you Whitney for doing the blog! How awesome!!! Thank you all for being the best family ever!! Today is my last day with all the notes you wrote me and I can honestly say that that´s always my favorite part of the day!!! I love you all so much and pray for you daily!!! Love, Hermama HawkesIMG_0112 IMG_0115 IMG_0104

I have the best family in the world!!!!

Hola Familia!

how are you all doing? It was so great to hear from you all and all about your busy week! Sunday sounds like it was a great day with all the homecomings and farewell! what an awesome family we have!! It´s also good to hear that harvest is coming right up and that you are helping Brody! It´s so fun to hear what everyone there is doing! It also sounds like whit had a fun time at girls camp and you all had fun with London!!
Things here are going great! As crazy as this sounds, these last two weeks have flown by! It seems like forever since I´ve seen you all but it feels like i just arrived yesterday and here i am already a third of the way through my CCM experience! I am learning so much and loving the classes! I can now say a prayer, bear my testimony, and get along pretty decently talking to the latina Hermanas in only spanish so I definitely know that I´m being blessed with the gift of tounges! My favorite day here is sunday!! We have sacrament meeting and relief society in spanish and then the rest of the day is in english which is super nice because then I can actually understand what´s going on!!! I can´t wait until i can understand everything in spanish!!
So new things happening here. A lot of the people that were here when i first came all left this morning and that was super weird! it made me pretty excited for the day that i get to fly out to ecuador! we have a new group coming in tonight so that will be way fun! Before that big group left though i found a whole bunch of girls that liked to run and during our hour of gym we would just run so hard and it felt so good!! The ones left here are super fun too so the next few weeks will be great too! We finished teaching our first “investigator” and it was a little rough but I´m excited for the next one to hopefully be able to teach more clearly and with the spirit! This morining we were able to do a service project (which ended up just being to make all the beds… but there are kind of a lot) and it felt so good to get out and work and do something a little bit different!! I am starting to fall asleep closer to 1030 now instead of laying awake for what seems like hours so I consider that quite a feat!! 🙂 but i would have to say that the best part of this week was that we got to go out proselyting to real people!! It was so awesome and our moto was Ser Osado which means be bold. Heavenly Father was watching out for us to much because the first two people we talked to spoke fluent english!! We got both of their contact information and gave a book of mormon to the second person!!! That was the most awesome feeling ever! We also gave another book of mormon to this little old lady and she tried to pay us for it, but it was definitely so eye opening to be out talking to people that aren´t just pretending to be investigators!!
Oh mom a few questions, Will you please ask dad or kristie if anyone took my tithing to church? And if you could somehow would you please get me Mackenzie Windley´s email? how is grandpa griffeth doing? I´ve thought and prayed about him a lot this week! And I´ve also had the Palmer famly on my mind a lot today! how are they doing??
I love you all so much and thank you for all writing me! I love opening my email and having emails from everyone in my family! you´re all so awesome and my mission is helping me realize that even more! I love you all and I´ll write again next thurday! I love you all!!
Love, Hermana Hawkes
PS can you tell that I finally figured out how to work the computer better?? 🙂
oh and also a little follow up, the girl that i have the shorts to gave me a pretty necklace that she had bought on her own and told me to keep it so that was super cool!! I love you all!!

Hola Familia!!!

Hello from Bogata columbia!!! wow its crazy to think that im here and that its already been a week! im sorry i know this grammar is aweful but im trying to get as much in as possible!! so first of all, I got all of your letters!! Thank you so much! I Have the best family in the whole world and i miss you all so much already!!! it sounds like you all had a great week with girls camp, high adventure, and so much more!! Im so sad to hear about grandpa but he will be in my prayers! so… this has been the fastest and slowest week of my whole life!! the first few days seemed like a few years but ever since then it has been way fast! My classes go all day and it is way more intense than school ever was but it is awesome and i feel like i am learning a ton! i  know the spirit is helping me to absorb way more than i would ever be able to on my own! so i have two companions. the first one is from alaska and we have soooo much in common! she is awesome and i love doing stuff with her! my other companion is great and shes from california. She tells me im impatient because i always want to be everywhere early but i guess she will just have to get used to it and ill have to get used to being called impatient because i dont like being late! but i am learning lots of good things about myself through her and all the other things and people here. i have great teachers soo that makes class great!! we have an investigator that we teach almost everyday and shes a teacher here but if she wasnt im sure we would make absolutely no sense in our extrememlylimited spanish!! we got to go to the temple last week and that was so cool!! it waas the most awesome spirit as i sat in the celestial room and looked around at a room full of only missionaries!! that was awesome!! so unfortunately i cant get any letters while im here in colombia and i cant send any out, so i guess youre all off the hook writing me letters for a while!! one of my most favorite parts of the day is the hour we get to work out! i like to run here, but my companion doesnt really so i have to come up with creative ways to trick her into exercising with me!:) but probably the most difficult thing for me so far has been trying to make myself fall asleep at 10:30!! i definitely should have been practicing because i swear i lay awake for like an hour every night trying to get all the spanish words out of my head but it has been great!! haha so some of the latina hermanas here call me barbie because of my blonde hair! it always makes me laugh! we try so hard to talk with them and weve make some good friends with a few of them! i had a super cool experience last night. there was a girl from bolivia here and we were all getting ready for bed and she had a pair of jeans on. so i (attempted) to ask her if she had any pajamas and she told me that her jeans were her pajamas. i almost broke down and started crying right in front of her so i asked if she wanted to wear some of my shorts while trying not to offend herr. i  went to my room and came back and she was crying because of something that had happened early that day and i held up two pairs of shorts and told her she could pick and after i gave them to her she sat there and cried and just hugged and hugged me. if i dont have any other experiences on my mission i know that i was at least sent here so that i could at least help that one hermana that didnt even have pajamas to wear to bed. i know that i have been so blessed to live where i do and with the family that i have!! mom, i did get to change my money in the airport so im good to go even though i only need it to buy souvenirs! Dad, thanks for telling me about the farm and everything thats going on! are you going to start cutting soon? thank you all so much for your emails and i wish that i could resppond to them all but thank you so much for all you said! i  love you all and i know that i have the best family in the whole wide world! i love you all so much but im grateful to be here as a missionary for the lord and i hope that i can bless some lives while im here! i love you all so much!!! love, Hermana Hawkes
