Hola Mi Querida Familia

Wow I am so grateful once again for the awesome family that I have!! Thank you all for the emails and pictures! It is so fun to hear and see what`s going on with everyone! Josh and Jared, camping looks like it was a ton of fun and your kids all look so grown up already!! And josh, good luck with your class! Accounting sounds hard… Whit, London is so darling and I can`t believe she`s walking!! Wow!! Kristie yay you beat clark!! I`m so happy for your team! you`ve got this! it`s just like my junior year in basketball… it started out rough but ended great and that`s what you guys are going to do! And that was a sweet picture in the newspaper! Good luck in dig pink! Great Job! Garr, the spud worker! how`s it going? do you dream of potatoes passing by you at night times? 🙂 Dad and Jared good luck with fall work! Fall time is my favorite time at home and it`s so fun to hear everything that`s going on! I loved all the pictures thank you!!!

Thing here are going great! I am so excited for conference this week and can`t wait to hear from the prophet and apostles! We are so blessed to have a living prophet to guide us! Oh and to answer dad`s question, yes I am a monster here! When i walk down the street I am literally the tallest person and it doesn`t help that I`m blonde and have white skin… I stick out a little bit! 🙂
This was such a great week! After I wrote last week, we taught a lesson to one of our new investigators Glenda and her son Oliver. She is seriously an answer to our prayers! When we got to her house she said -I`ve been looking for my glasses so that I could read the words when you came!! what a blessing! We taught her about the Book of Mormon and invited her to kneel and pray to know that Joseph Smith was a prophet at the end of the lesson and she started to cry in the prayer! The spirit was so strong!! Everytime we go she always tells us that she wants to keep learning more and wants to keep praying! She has been reading all the things we ask her in the book of mormon and even reads pages past where she`s supposed to so that is seriously awesome!!! We invited her to be baptized this week and she accepted!!!! Ah it was so great so we are helping her and her son prepare to be baptized on the 17th of October! How exciting!!
We also got to go to Guayaquil for a conference and to go to the temple this week! It was such a great confernce and we learned about temple work and family history! I am so grateful that we have the opportunity to be forever families and live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again! What a blessing this knowledge is in our lives if we will just follow the plan that they have set for us! It was also so awesome to get to go to the temple! The session was in Spanish and I understood way more of the words than I did the last time I went so I know I at least understand more spanish!!
We also have these two ladies in the branch here that are seriously like our moms! Everytime we walk by they always invite us in for some kind of food so we get to talk with their families and share a spiritual thought with them! I am really coming to love the people here! The members are so awesome as well because we can walk by their houses and if they are home they invite us in or will come with us to our next lesson! Everyone here is so welcoming and so kind! I love the people here in Ecuador!
We also got to go to the Women`s conference and that was so neat! To be honest I had a hard time understanding it in spanish, but I realized how grateful I am for the power of music in my life! I had to hold back tears when we would sing or when the choir was singing because I felt the spirit so strong, and maybe a little bit because it was in English! 🙂
I`m so grateful for this opportunity that I have to be a missionary at this time adn try to help people in their lives. I truly feel love for the people we teach and want them to accept our message so badly because I know that it will help them so much in their lives! I know that Jesus Christ lives and that he is our Savior! I know that he has felt every pain and every happiness we have and that he wants to hear from us daily! I am so grateful for the gospel in my life and know that I have been so blessed to have grown up in the church and for the awesome family that I have! I love you all so much and pray for you multiple times everyday!!! I love you! Love, Hermana Hawkes

Hola Familia

Wow how fun to hear from you all! I love hearing what`s happening with all of your weeks and all the experiences you`re having!! It sounds like homecoming was super fun! I loved all the pictures of all of you and all the fun stories! Thank you so much! Oh and I`m jealous taht Jared talked at the assembly! I tried to get him when I was in high school so you guys are lucky!! Also good job Brooke! Wow DYW is so much fun and I`m so glad she did such a good job! Please tell SAlly good luck on her talk and on her mission! It will be fun to hear her mission experiences! Also it was fun to hear that Garrett and DAd have been working on spanish! I know the struggle Garr… 🙂 You can do it!!!

Ok so to answer some questions! I absolutely love my companion! She is a super hard worker and is super patient with me so we have been getting along great! She`s also so motherly over me and always asks if I`m ok and when I start crossing the street and she thinks a car is too close she says Êspera! Va a morir antes de su tiempo! I always laugh because I think I know when to not get hit by a car but it`s super funny!! 🙂 We cook our own breakfast and dinner and eat with members for lunch! the lunches are always huge but wow I love the food here!!
I love the missionary work here more and more everyday! At first, it was kind of a shock that we were out teaching lessons and looking for people to teach for like 8 hours a day (I don`t know what I was expecting…) 🙂 but now I really look forward to it! The more families and people we meet the more it energizes me to want to go out and find people, and I understand a little bit more everyday which makes it that much more fun to talk to people! So two of my favorite families here are the family of Hna Mila and the Castro family. Hna Mila is a member but her kids are all less active. I think they all really enjoy when we go to their house though because they all come and listen and always offer us a cool fruit drink, chips, or literally anything they can find! They are super nice! A few days ago we were passing by and the daughter who had a little boy who`s 5 was grating yucca so we asked if we could help! That was super funa and something I`ve never done! Then they asked if we wanted to help them make fried yucca with cheese in the middle and I think I have found my new favorite Ecuadorian food! It was super fun and they said they will send me yucca when I´m back in the US! THe other family is the Castro family. The dad was baptized a little while ago so we have been teaching him the lessons all again, but he struggles with coming to church because he works on sundays. He works in fast food, which is funny because he just has this cart that he goes out and sells food from! But he`s super nice and his family is also super nice and so fun!!!
We also found a lady named Glenda this week and she listened and seemed really interested in our message! She agreed to come with us to church, so she came with her 8 year old son and I think they really enjoyed it! I was amazed at the joy I felt when they came to church and the honest desire I have for them to progress and to be baptized so that they can have the joy of the gospel in their lives!! I love how the gospel can help people and truly improve their lives! I know that when we follow the principles of the gospel and go to church that we can truly feel closer to our families and closer to our Father in Heaven! I know this because the more I testify of it to others, the more I know it is true! I am so grateful for this time that I have to help peple come to Christ and feel the joy of the gospel that I have in my life! I know I am so blessed to be here in Ecuador at this time and that the Lord is preparing people at this time for me and my companions to go find! I love this work and love the people of Ecuador!!
I love you all so much and love hearing from all of you! Thank you so much for the uplifting and fun messages! I miss you all and pray for you daily! Please be safe! All my love, Hermana Hawkes

Hola Familia

Hey it was great to hear from everyone today!! Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes and letters! I wish that I could respond to each one of you individually but this is literally the shortest hour of the whole week! But I`m so grateful for all the support and can really feel the love! Thank you so much!! I`m so glad to hear that you completed harvest and that all went well! This is one of my favorite times of the year and I`ve thought of harvest and the sports and everything a lot!! It`s so fun to  hear how you`re all doing!! Krisite Wow… Athlete of the week, homecoming royalty… man what more could you possibly ask for in one week! 🙂 You`re so awesome! Keep letting your special spirit shine through to everyone! Garr that picture of the elk was so sweet!!! I can´t believe your arrow was broken! Dang next time right?? And seriously bud you need to stop being so good at everything and then maybe you wouldn`t get hurt! I know you will be back in no time! 🙂

Well, this has been a crazy exciting week! I`m in Ecuador! Wow I never thought this time would come and I`ve already been here for almost a week! The first day we got here we got to go to President Dennis`s house and he and his wife are sooo nice! They are from Utah so it was nice that i could actually understand them… 🙂 We had meetings all that day and then I got my trainer! Her name is Hna Fuentes and she is from Guatemala! We are figuring out how to communicate with a lot of actions until I can actually talk well enough to communicate but my spanish has come a long ways, besides the fact that she usually has to translate to the people what I`m saying!! So We were in an area called Peñas for 2 days and then we got switched! Peñas seriously looked like the places off of movies where there are broken steps and houses stacked on top of each other and everything! It was crazy to believe that I´m actually here! I´m now in a city called Daule which is north of Guayaquil. I LOVE IT HERE!!! It`s a ¨small town¨ and there are only 4 hermanas here! We have a super nice apartment and that`s a huge blessing!! The people here are so accepting and their windows are always open because they don´t have air conditioning and it`s pretty warm so you just walk up to the window and yell and they come out and talk! It`s so cool!! It`s pretty warm here!! Just imagine walking the parade route of Sun Valley or Salt lake all day… 🙂 and then add some humidity! But it`s super beautiful and reminds me of the pictures I`ve seen of Africa! We eat lots of rice!!! and then usually some kind of meat that looks like they literally killed it right before they cooked it!! Haha what a fun expereince this is!!! 🙂  The food here is actaully super good! I`ll also send pictures next week!!
I love to go out and teach lessons!! Irt`s so cool to teach real peop’le now and actually help them!! so the first people are Darwin and Shirley. They are a couple that is less active and expecting their first baby. They just need to come to church!! We had a lesson with them yesterday about preparing to go to the temple and they seemed to really like that! I was able to testify of the blessings that come being sealed to my family in the temple and I`m so grateful for that!!!
The next family is the Mila family. The dad died a few years ago and the mom is a super stong member! Her kids are mostly inactive so we had a lesson with her daughter and the boyfriend about getting married and we`re going back more times this week to teach each of her kids different lessons! It`s so cool to see the interest that they have and try to say something that will help them make their lives better!
We also went and talked to a mom and son named Benilda and Juan. They had a baptism date set but haven`t been going to church so I was able to invite them to be baptized again and set a new date! We have a lot to do to help them but they will get there!
Last we talked with the Castro family last night. They have a son that is super strong and is actually a ward missionary, but his parents always work on sundays. we had a lesson with the dad Pablo about praying and it was so cool to see the son testify to the dad of the blessings that he could have in his life if he would pray! These people are all so awesome and they are all changing my life in small ways!!
I love you all so much and I´m so grateful for the awesome family and support that I have. Yo se que esta Iglesia es la verdadera y que este obra es de el Señor. Yo se que tenemos muchos bendiciones en nuestros familia y que Padre Celestial es siempre aqui para nosotros. If that`s not right you can have dad or Jared translate!! 🙂 I love you all! Please be safe and know that I love you all!!!
Love, Hermana Hawkes

Hola Familia!

I am alive and in Ecuador!! Wow it is so gorgeous here and I love it already!! My day started out at 2 o´clock this morning and we flew out of the Columbia airport to Panama! That was super cool and so gorgeous! We had like a 45 minute layover and I wanted to call so bad, but there just wasn´t enough time! We got to Ecuador and the humidity hit right when we got off the plane, but President and Sister Dennis were at the airport to greet us! They are so so so awesome and so nice! They are from Utah and speak very fluent english so that has been awesome! I´ve been able to talk to Sister Dennis a lot and she is super nice and I have my interview with President in a few minutes! I love you all and I will write on P Day!!! Love, Hermana Hawkes

I Love My Family!

Wow thank you all so much for your letters and for the birthday wishes!! Haha it´s so crazy to me that it´s already September! Time here in the MTC is so crazy!!

Happy Anniversary to Josh and Kelsey last week, sorry i forgot to mention it, but I did think of you guys that day as well as Carter on his birthday and Kelsie on her birthday the day before!!! Happy happy birthday to Kelsey this week and Happy anniversary to Kelsey!!! Also Happy birthday to my birthday twin Brooke!! 🙂
Well it was another great week here in Bogota!! I got my new companion last Tuesday and I could not have been more blessed!! Her name is Hna Armengot and she is from Bolivia!! The first thing I told her was that Jared served in Bolivia! She is seriously the best companion I could have asked for and she is always to patient with me! I have to ask her to repeat everything like 3 times before I understand it, but i feel like my Spanish is getting better! I can conjugate verbs so much better now and I´m so excited to get out into the field and talk to real investigators!!! Oh and Dad, I don´t know how you ever learned to talk with the people in Chile because I can barely understand spanish, and the Chileans here have the weirdest accents that I can never understand so I have so much more respect for you than I even did before!! 🙂 Our district leader is from Chile and I have to try so hard not to zone out when he´s talking because it´s so hard to understand!! 🙂 We also got to go to the temple two times this week! The first time was in spanish and thankfully today was in english! It´s amazing how much things can be put into perspective and now I am so grateful anytime anyone talks to me in English!!! But yes this is my last week in the CCM and I am sad to leave but super excited to get to Ecuador!!! We will fly out on tuesday morning at like 8 probably so i get to wake up at 3 or something that morning!! I´m not sure if i will get to call, but if i do it will be SUPER early in the morning! Don´t get your hopes up because President hasn´t said if we can, but if you receive a call I guess it will be a surprise!!
The weather here in Colombia is usually cloudy and I think it rains here every night! but it´s really nice because it´s never too hot! Everything is so green and beautiful and hopefully when i get to Ecuador i can send lots more pictures!!
Thank you for sending all the fun pictues and telling me all about harvest! It sounded so fun to have a dinner out in the fields with grandma hawkes just like old times!! and it´s so awesome that there are so many family memberes helping with harvest!!!
I´m sorry this is short! this is literally the shortest hour of the week, but I want you all to know that I love you all so much and I{m so grateful because i know that i have the best family in the whole world!!! Good luck Garrett on your first game and Kristie it sounds like you´re killing it in volleyball!! Please everyone be safe and know that I love you all and pray for you so much!! This is the true church and I´m so grateful to be here serving the Lord and preparing to teach in Ecuador!! I love you all!!
